The famous English detective Sherlock Holmes lost his life when he chased Prof. Moriarty, London’s underground kingpin, and fell off of Reichenbach fall on May 4th, 1891. The fans did not like the ending of Sherlock Holmes in the criminal story “The Final Problem and the author Conan Doyle had to resurrect the hero in the Adventure of the Empty House. A star indicates the ledge next to the waterfall where Sherlocks fate was sealed.
Start from Meiringen train station and take the cable car to the top of Reichenbach fall. After arrival at the cable car station, continue your short ascend to the top. You can enjoy a short break at the restaurant with a stunning view of the valley or continue your walk through the forrest, fields and small villages. You will reach the turquoise colored river Aare. Buy your ticket for the amazing Aare Gorge (Entrance fee is about 10 CHF) and enjoy an amazing walk through a narrow approx. 3 km long gorge.
