Kufstein, Tyrol, Austria

A short return to my time as a student in the town known as the “Pearl of Tyrol (Perle Tirols)”.

Mid of September we drove from Desenzano del Garda in Italy to my hometown Passau in Germany. On the way we took a quick break in the town Kufstein in Tyrol where I did my undergraduate degree at the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tyrol. It was great to be back and a great opportunity to show a little bit of the city to Chrissie. We parked near the University and walked to the old city center to the restaurant Auracher Löchl. It exists already for more than 600 years and is also a boutique hotel with themed rooms nowadays. The restaurant is informal and serves Tyrolian and Viennese cuisine. You should also definitely check out the Gin bar which is placed inside a cave of the mountain and carries the worlds greatest Gin collection.

Kufstein itself is a quiet little town and located at the river Inn right next to the border of Germany. It underwent quite the transformation from the time I was a student there. The university added a new building, the city center is now a pedestrian street and a new cultural center as well as the shopping mall got finished. We did not see much because we arrived late in the evening and still had a few more hours to drive to my hometown. It still brought back good memories and surely we will visit it again!
